Just Draw

I'm a visionary type person. I see with the eye of my mind. Sometimes it works and sometimes I leave myself wondering "what was I thinking?" That's ok. At least I tried and I have no fear of failure when it comes to trying something new. One of the best tools one can have is a sketch book close by. I was given one for Christmas with very little instruction on how to use it. My Brother-in Law encouraged me to "just draw. It doesn't have to be a work of art just draw" The point being that if you have a thought in mind for a new piece, you shouldn't loose the opportunity to capture the idea. So that's what I've been trying to do. And yes there are no works of art as of yet. Maybe later.

I will say however, that it has spurred me into a different mode of perception. Seeing things in a different way. Famed sculptor Betty Scarpino brought some things to light as I sat in her class one day. She had a few pictures that were of the same set of trees and bushes near her home and she asked "What differences could we pick out. Well, we all came up with different views not knowing it was the same identical set of trees. It was our perspective of what we were viewing. So what is the take-away from this lesson? When you see a interesting form,  look at it from several different views. Let it sink in for a moment and then just draw what you see in your minds eye. It doesn't have to be perfect nor does it have to be the exact image. Just draw the basic idea and let the imagination take over. You may be surprised at what takes place.
